This stunning, colorful butterfly pin is like a wearable, whimsical stained glass window. Plique-a-jour, which loosely translates as “light of day,” is the most difficult of enameling techniques and is sometimes referred to as "backless cloisonné" because of the appearance of the fine silver or gold filigree wire "veins" running through areas of transparent and translucent glass (vitreous) enamel. The wings of the butterfly are articulated and can be positioned any way you would like to emulate the flapping of the wings.
